A Weighted Companion Cube stencil! The popular inanimate object from the game Portal, which came as part of the Orange Box set.

I wanted to paint a Weighted Companion Cube on my suitcase so that it will be easy to find in the airports when I go to China. I used fabric paint and a stencil of my own creation. The first step was finding a "face-on" picture of the beloved cube, which was surprisingly difficult to do. The reference I eventually used is here.

Roight, suuo... once I had this printed out, I realized if I were to cut out all the black parts, the heart and the white insides of the outer edge-thingies would fall out of the stencil. So I didn't cut the parts which are indicated in purple. I painted those spaces after taking the stencil off.

Feel free to use this or make your own (better) one! Spread the looooove of the cuuuuube. I used a pocket knife to cut the stencil (though I would highly recommend an x-acto knife or a scalpel or razor!) and masking tape to affix it to my suitcase. I used "Dimensional Fabric Paint," though it would not have been my first choice. I'd recommend a sturdy, non-3-dimensional fabric paint.

<strike>Once I get a digicam, I'll take a pic of the suitcase.</strike> I hope no one thinks it's some kind of biohazard symbol. It's got a heart in it, for cake's sake!

Thank you ever so very much! This saved me a lot of effort from attempting to cut one out from just a normal image. You're a lifesaver. I made a stencil from the normal plastic stuff, so now the cube shall be put on nearly everything!

I also became obsessed with it for quite a while before I played Portal. I've made a purse, and modded a pair of boots, a jacket, a scarf, a hat, a dress, etc. Your stencil will help me to do even more. Most of my mods have been creating felt appliques and adding them and other details.
